Every January I used to design a New Me. The New Me woke at 5 AM, ran 10K, journaled in calligraphy, and drank something green. The New Me usually died by January 9th, murdered by the Old Me, who just wanted ten more minutes of sleep.

What finally worked was the opposite: habits so small they were almost embarrassing. Too small to fail. Too small for the Old Me to even notice and resist.

The five that stuck

You don't rise to the level of your ambitions. You sink to the level of what you can repeat on your worst day.

Why tiny wins

A habit isn't really about the thing itself โ€” it's about becoming the kind of person who does the thing. One push-up doesn't build muscle. It builds identity: I'm someone who shows up. Muscle comes later, on its own schedule.

The upgrade isn't dramatic. Nobody makes a movie about a guy who put his phone in the kitchen. But stack five tiny habits and give them a year, and your daily life is unrecognizably better โ€” with zero willpower heroics.

Start here

Pick one thing. Shrink it until it sounds ridiculous. Do it after something you already do every day (coffee, brushing teeth, arriving home). Forgive misses instantly. That's the entire system.
